About Merced

Founded in 1872
Incorporated in April 1, 1889

Strong in Education

Merced is home to two colleges, Merced College and University of California, Merced. Merced College was established in 1962 and has served the community since then. UC Merced was established in 2005 and is the youngest UC In California’s public university system. Both of these colleges provide education to the community and empower its alumni to achieve their goals. 

The Community Continues to Grow

Merced is amongst the fastest growing communities in California. The town is a mix between a family town and college town, so there is a broad variety in businesses and activities available for residents or visitors of any age. 

Geographically Primed for Adventure!

Merced is located in the heart of the Central Valley which is great starting point for any adventurous trip in California. You can explore Yosemite, the Bay area, visit the snow, or relax at the beach, all only a driving distance away. Whichever direction your sense of adventure points to, you are certain to find great experiences and create wonderful memories.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Take a jog down one of the many trails Merced has to offer, such as the Michael O’Sullivan bike path. Perfect for leisurely strolls too.

Take a trip to Yosemite! Enjoy the scenic landscapes and the calm peaceful environment. You may even get to see the wildlife.

The Promenade Plaza is home to a variety of cultural restaurants as well as iconic American staples. Enjoy an Indian Buffet during lunch at Tumeric, or grab a coffee and enjoy the ambiance at Starbucks.

The classic Sonic Drive-In. Excellent place to travel back in time and hang out as if it were 1950s. During hot summer days grab a fruit slush with nerds as a sweet way to keep cool.
